Web Analytics Wednesday
Web analytics, in brief, is the study of website visitor behavior. One of the most known tool for web analytics is Google Analytics. Its success is certainly due to its price (free) and its origin (Google). Maybe because its a good tool, but that's another issue that I won't discuss in this post.
Anyway, if you're interested in web analytics, have a look at the Web Analytics Wednesday. It is a social networking event for people interested in this quite new field. Events are organized in several countries around the world. I'm particularly happy that Switzerland is organizing one of those meetings. So, if you're a professional in the field, or just like me, a fan of web analytics, feel free to come to one of these events (on the website, you can click on the map to choose an event location).

Hi Sandro,
Thank you for promoting the first edition of the WAW in Switzerland. I hope it will help to build the community of web analytics professionals in our country.
Here an excerpt of the agenda:
- Opening words
- Web Analytics: Outlook for 2008
- Practitioners testimonies
-Discussion and networking
To comment your first paragraph, I think the definition is a little bit... brief ;-)
A good definition has been provided by the Web Analytics Association:
"Web Analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of Internet data for the purposes of understanding and optimizing Web usage".
You're right, the fact that GA is free is probably part of its success but it is also a powerful tool with a lot of features to address many needs. Definitely a good solution if you want to achieve professional web analytics without paying an expensive tool.
Thanks for the details on WAW and the more comprehensive definition of web analytics. I'm looking forward to meet you at the Swiss WAW next month.
