New data mining blog

Today I would like to introduce you to a new data mining blog. Crime Analysis and Data Mining is a weblog maintained by Shyam Varan Nath. It started in 2007 and deals with data mining used for crime analysis. In his first posts, he writes about biometric as well as news related to crime and security. This blog opens a door on possible applications of data mining that might be very interesting...

[Next week is holiday for Data Mining Research, see you on February 19th]

Hi,

sorry for this unrelated comments.

What is the best clustering algorithms for mixed data (numeric and categorical) you would recommend?

Saw an new algorithms CAVE (Mining of mixed data with application to catalog marketing), the name is so familiar but I can't remember where did I see it before!)

Cheers,

Dong

Hi Sandro,

Another question (unrelated to your topic again) from me:

I am doing literature review of my study stage. Got lot's of good links from your blog already, and I want to know how do you usually find those new papers? For example the paper you linked in "Machine learning according to Mitchell"

I use Google, ScienceDirect, IEEE, emerald, and got EngineeringVillage from peer member. just use wild search on those sites and start reading from the result and their references.

It's not very efficient as we hoped (to find out my research topic)...

Many thanks

Shyam, you're welcomed. Dong, I'm not a specialist about clustering algorithms themselves, but I can refer you to this paper by Jain et al. (1999) which is very good. Regarding your second question, I usually found these papers while reading other blogs and with SCOPUS and Web of Science. You can also use Google Alert to be informed on a certain topic.

Hello,

First I'm not an expert in data mining for terrorism. You should ask your question to someone in this domain. Second, I think you should give more details concerning your project.
